My House to Paint is a story about a Georgia boy that broke free from the restraints of his past, poverty and generational patterns to become a successful black man against all the odds he faced. The southern presence of racism was everywhere as well as the deep limiting belief that mediocrity was the way of life. The small cottage with no running water and outhouse where he lived at with his two adopted elderly parents, was all that he knew growing up. His saving grace was his Father’s strong integrity and love for him that created a lasting impression and propelled him to want more for himself. My House to Paint is Marshall Jones’ reflection to his daughters of how he was able to transform his life from the struggle he was born into; his nuggets of life of how he became a community leader and beacon of hope for many.
